December has arrived, but you still don't feel the holiday spirit? Lately, it seems like we no longer await the holidays with the same enthusiasm, and we're not sure what to do to bring back that "Christmas magic." If you find yourself in this situation, you've come to the right place because BOS is here to help with some ideas that will instantly revive your holiday spirit!
1. Decorate Your Home for Christmas from the Beginning of the Month
How can we enjoy December if we don't start by decorating our homes? If the city lights up on December 1st, why not do the same in our homes? Take out your lights and all decorations from your home and start making your home more beautiful together with your family!
Nothing compares to the image formed with the family around the Christmas tree, placing ornaments on the tree while carols play in the background.
Even though the tree is the main element of the house, let's not forget the rest of the house. A few lights around the room and some tinsel placed in rooms will maintain the festive atmosphere in the house.
2. DIY Christmas Decorations
Holidays mean time spent with loved ones, and what better way to do that than through Christmas decorations!
For some extra fun during the holidays, we recommend trying some handmade decorations with friends or family. With just a few materials that everyone has on hand, you can create the most unique decorations and gifts for your loved ones.
No idea where to start? We come to your aid with a few easy and quick ideas!
- a decorative candle
All you need are a CD, some twine, glue, a candle, and a few small ornaments. Wrap the CD in twine, then glue the candle and ornaments to your liking.
- a door wreath
You need a styrofoam circle (you can find them at Jumbo/Pepco), tinsel, and small ornaments. All you have to do is wrap the styrofoam circle with tinsel and then glue the ornaments onto the wreath using glue or toothpicks.
3. Cook Together with Loved Ones
After all the decorations, you need something to eat, so we come to your aid. Nothing brings the holiday spirit closer than the smell of cookies in the kitchen and a table full of flour. Gather your friends and prepare the most delicious Christmas treats while having fun, and we'll provide you with dessert ideas!

4. Outings to Cafes/Christmas Markets
If you're not a fan of cooking, we recommend trying the pastries from Christmas markets and cafes. Bucharest is full of cozy cafes with pastries and carols, waiting for you to spend hours with friends over a good story and an even better pastry! But if you like to stroll, not just sit at a table, you could try the Christmas markets in Bucharest. These are filled with delicious food as well as many shops perfect for Christmas gifts, as well as places to have fun.
Here are our recommendations for cafes and Christmas markets, have fun!!
Cafes:
☆French Revolution
☆Boiler × Guido
☆Italian Vintage Caffè e Prosecco Bar
☆Throwback Coffee
☆Frog
Christmas Markets:
☆West Side Christmas Market
☆Laminor Winter Wonderland
5. Secret Santa
Want to have fun with Christmas gifts but also save some money? Secret Santa with family and friends is the ideal solution! This way, everyone is involved in buying gifts, and everyone has the opportunity to give something to their loved ones. Another advantage that Secret Santa offers is that you can save money on gifts, putting your heart into one significant gift rather than 10 hastily made ones. After all, Christmas is about the idea of giving gifts, not about their value and quantity. Prepare your notes with all the family members and friends for the most interesting gifts this year. Don't forget to at least try to keep the secrets of this game and remember to have fun!
To make the gift-giving experience even more interesting, take your friends and go shopping together. This way, you can inspire and help each other choose the most beautiful gifts and create pleasant memories, as well as face the Christmas rush together.
6. Christmas Movies
Another idea to bring back the Christmas spirit is Christmas movies. What better way to spend this time than with Kevin lost in New York or the Grinch trying to steal Christmas? Prepare all your favorite snacks with plenty of hot chocolate mugs and gather your friends for a Christmas movie marathon.
Don't know where to start your marathon? Here we come with some recommendations:
~all Home Alone movies
~How the Grinch Stole Christmas
~Polar Express
~The Christmas Chronicles
~Santa Clause
More movie recommendations await you in an article coming soon on the site!
7. Listen to Christmas Carols Throughout December!
All the activities above cannot be fully experienced without Christmas carols! So, grab your headphones and play the longest playlist of carols on Spotify; Michael Buble and Mariah Carey can't wait to be your favorite artists in December. No Christmas activity goes well without a few specific tunes, so, to keep the holiday spirit throughout December, we recommend listening to carols all the time—on the street during a short walk, while shopping, during Christmas cleaning, and even at the shower concert.
These are our recommendations for all students who no longer feel the magic of Christmas but are willing to do anything to bring it back. Remember that the most important thing is to have fun and spend time with loved ones.
Have fun and Merry Christmas!!!
